Concerts happen every day, and tours happen every year. Sometimes, it seems that some artists never stop touring! If you're an artist, a producer, a manager, a publicist, or just in the music industry in general, you've definitely at some point asked yourself, "Do I really need a photographer at my band's/artist's show?
And i would argue that it is one of the most important things you could ever need.
And i don't just say that becausE I take photos of concerts. But - think about it. At the end of the night, when all of the fans go home, and the tour bus is loaded back up on the way to another city, What do you have to prove that the show happened in the first place? What is the only proof that your band/your artist/you played a show at whatever venue you did?
the photos. Photographers and videographers have the difficult task of documenting physical proof that an event happened
We live in a world of of rapidly changing technology and fast paced industries. A world where the music industry in particular feeds off of how much content you are able to produce in the shortest amount of time. The fans feed off of any content they can get. Who is providing you professional content to boost your online presence? Photographers. In a social media age, photographers have adapted to be delivering concert photos within 24 hours (That's always my goal anyways!), if not sooner. You will never find harder working creatives that are as passionate, and just as determined to create imagery that will attract the eye. Instead of struggling to find content, why not have a photographer that will capture months of content in one night, and also deliver those photos faster than you've ever seen a photographer do it before?
Not to mention money that could be saved elsewhere. for example, instead of hiring an in-studio photographer for an album cover shoot, and then again for social media content, and then again for posters and tour marketing, what if there's a chance that a concert photography album could provide all those things plus proof that the show happened in the first place?
It is up to the discretion of each band or artist, but the positives of having a concert photographer, even just for one night, highly outweighs the negatives. It is so special to have those once-in-a-lifetime, never-can-be-replicated-again moments permanently captured forever.
